IDP (Individual Development Plan)
This component enables you to plan and record the development of each individual employee. For ease of data entry and to maximise display capabilities, access to various sections of the plan is by a series of tabs.

Main Area
The main area identifies the person, their role and the period for the IDP. It includes basic buttons, and incorporates the various tab sections.
Buttons:
| Button | Function |
|---|---|
| Save | Save changes |
| Close | Close the record |
Summary Tab
The 'Summary' section is a free text area for use by the person preparing the plan (typically, the employee's Supervisor or immediate manager). This may be useful for providing further insight into some of the issues in the 'Review details' section.
Review Details Tab
Fields:
| Fields | Description |
|---|---|
| Obj No. | The objective number or order |
| Objective | The details of the performance objective |
| Standard | The performance standard for the objective |
| Comment | comments |
| Assessment | The assessment for the objective |
The 'Review details' section enables multiple records to be kept, each with fields for entering an objective on which an employee is to be assessed, the required standard, and the employee's assessment rating. The assessment ratings provided are based on a simple model whereby an employee is considered as failing, meeting, or exceeding expectations. The default entry is 'Not assessed'. This model may be adjusted to suit your organisation's needs. To adjust the ratings structure, see How to edit an item in a Lookup Table.
Action Plan Tab
Fields:
| Fields | Description |
|---|---|
| Item No. | The Item number or order |
| Action Required | The details of the action to be taken |
| By Who | The person responsible for the action |
| Core Skill | The core skill being developed |
| Required by | The date the action is to be completed by |
| Achieved on | The date the action was completed |
| Inactive | A flag to indicate if the action is no longer required |
| Reason | The reason an action has been made inactive |
The 'Action plan' enables actions to be planned that will help the individual achieve their set objectives. For example, completing a relevant training course. Each record should be given an item number, have the action specified, along with 'By who', 'Core Skill' and the 'Required by' date. The action would normally be assigned to the employee themselves OR the person that is responsible for providing / arranging any specified training / development.
Preparation Tab
The 'Preparation' section should be completed with the names for the employee, their supervisor and the reviewer along with the dates when the plan was developed and agreed.
Completion Tab
The 'Completion' section should be signed off when the plan period has ended. Fields are allocated for the employee and reviewer (typically, 2nd line manager) to add their comments if desired. It is assumed that the 1st line manager would enter their comments in the 'Summary' section of the plan. Sign-off requires entry of the appropriate passwords.
