Error Messages

The following provides some basic guidance on error messages that may occur and what to do about them:

EMAIL - Error Message - The specified string is not in the form required for an e-mail address
This means that an e-mail address was not in the required format. Check that all email addresses have an @ before the domain name, and an extension like .org or .com after the domain name.

EMAIL - Error Message: Could not access 'CDO.Message' object
This will occur if there is no email address specified in the system for the sender or ther recipient. Check in the relevant Personal Details form or contact your System Manager.

EMAIL or EXPORT - Error Message: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation
To email an attachment or export a file, the software needs to invoke or create a temporary file. The target folder for this file is specified in the Management Console. The error may be caused by invalid path name or properties for the folder needed to temporarily hold the created export file. Specifically, the reported error can occur if:

  • No default path/folder has been specified for temporary files (check in Management Console)
  • The specified folder does not exist
  • If there is a RETURN key at the end of the path string in the Management Console
  • If users do not have read/write permissions for the specified TEMP folder

The suggested first step is to verify the above and correct if necessary.

Data Entry
In data entry forms, if you do not make an entry in a mandatory field or you make an invalid entry, an error message may be displayed in red text at the top of the form, and the field that the message is referring to will be indicated with a red star.

DOCUMENTS - When Viewing Documents - Error Message: No document name specified
This message will appear if you select a document in the Master Document List, and click the View button (or use menu option: Functions/View), but no valid document has been specified to link to. Contact your System Manager.

DOCUMENTS - When recording a revision to a document - Error Message: Access to the path...(filename/path)
This is probably due to Master or Archive Documents folder not being set up correctly. The document revision process uploads a new version of the document to a Master Documents folder. It also moves the previous version of the document to an Archive Documents folder. Both of these are specified in the Management Console.

The reported error can occur if:

  • One of those folders does not exist
  • One of those folders has a different name from that specified in the management console
  • One of those folders does not have correct sharing permissions set

We suggest verifying - and if necessary, fixing - the above.

MEETINGS - When saving minutes - Error message: Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'tblMeetingMinutes_PK'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'tblMeetingMinutes'.
This is probably due to user manually entering a duplicate item number in the agenda. Each agenda item must have a unique number. They do not have to be whole numbers e.g. 1.00 1.01 and 1.02 etc. are allowed.

Other error messages may occur in various circumstances. Please refer initially to your System Manager or Administrator - who may in turn refer to Qudos Technical Support.
