Hyperlinks

When the document distribution of management systems migrated from paper documents to electronic, one of the great benefits was the ability to create hyperlinks between them. This meant that the user could quickly go from one document to another that had some relevance to it. Unfortunately, when the linked document changed or was deleted, this often led to a broken link. The maintenance of links is a task that is time-consuming and therefore is often not done. To the frustration of users.

Because the search facilities in Qudos 3 make finding a document much easier, there is now a much reduced need for creating hyperlinks between them. For example, a search based on the word 'Induction' in the title field might find:

  • An Induction procedure
  • An Induction checklist
  • An Induction training presentation

Thus, reducing the need to create and maintain hyperlinks from one to another. However, there may still be occasions where you consider that a hyperlink will be useful. In that case, the following points should be noted:

  • When a hyperlink is being created to a location on the Internet, the full web address should be used e.g. http://www.qudos-software.com.
  • When a hyperlink is being created from one document in your Master Document List to another, remember that the actual files will be co-located in the same folder, so any hyperlink should refer to the filename only - and exclude a path.

For instructions on creating and editing hyperlinks, refer to the Help file for the software used to create the document.
